What Is Hypnosis?
There are countless hypotheses concerning the subject of Hypnosis. The controversy and the attempts to define it are extensive enough to fill up libraries and bookstores. At least one theory considers it equivalent to a form of relaxation. Others, including some religions, even consider it evil or dangerous.
I do not believe Hypnosis is a form of mind control. That is called Voodoo, and I do not like it a bit. You won’t reveal “All Your Secrets” through Hypnosis unless you are willing. And we won’t have that much time would we? That happens if someone drugged you, which will not happen in a normal Hypnosis session.
I personally believe Hypnosis is a magnificent tool we all have to assist us in the process of inducing a “Hypnotic Trance”; the door that opens the way to the unconscious mind, the access to the unlimited human potential. You may want to search the now extensive database available on-line or in the libraries. I encourage you to do so to learn more. It is truly a fascinating, intriguing and mesmerizing subject.
What is a Hypnotic 'Trance'?
Trance, can be a very misleading term for what is going on in hypnosis, since it is not necessarily a sleep or stupor as some of traditional connotations of the term imply, but rather a totally distinct experience. Though hypnosis often resembles dreaming, it appears much closer to daydreaming than to normal nighttime dreaming.
Studies of the brain activities show that “trance” might lead to a state in which the subject's awareness and behavior was altered from the usual. Sleep can be viewed as a generalized cortical inhibition, and trance is not in any determinable way identified with sleep. Trance is not a form of sleep or a stupor.
Can anyone be hypnotized?
Hypnotized or induced into trance, I ask. Again we get into the controversy. If you only consider hypnotized as something like you see on TV where people are (sometimes) in a deep, somnambulistic state, doing all sorts of weird things they have no awareness of, then I must answer no, not everyone can be hypnotized.
If we talk about utilizing hypnosis to induce “trance” then my answer will be YES anyone can be hypnotized. You ARE in a trance right this moment as you read this. And I didn't put you in it. This is a state of mind quite different than the one when you are at work or taking care of children.
EVERYONE experiences several trance states during the day whether they are conscious of it or not and it doesn't necessarily have to be a relaxed state either.
A hypnotist can easily lead a subject into different levels of a trance depth, however getting the subject to reach that deep, somnambulistic state is possible, yet not as easy and is a direct result from the subject‘s willingness to do so.
Surgery and Anesthesia
Experiments with hypnosis during surgery have found that suggestion during and after surgery can reduce bleeding significantly, as well as help with the management of pain.
Immune Response
It has long been supposed (and in recent years demonstrated experimentally) that emotions and psychological state somehow have an effect on human immune response. A recent article in Science News (Sept 4, 1993, pp.153) describes 'the first solid evidence that hypnosis can modify' the immune system far more than relaxation alone."
The report concluded that "hypnosis strengthens the disease-fighting capacity of two types of immune cells, particularly among people who enter a hypnotic trance easily.
NLP and Hypnotic Trance
Each of us - through genetics, biochemistry, or environmental influences - have programmed ourselves to be exceptional at many things; mediocre at some things; and down right awful in others. These Neuro-logical patterns (programs) can be understood by observing and listening to how we linguistically communicate and behave - in both verbal and non-verbal language. Through this, we can understand and alter how we Neuro-logically piece our experiences together to be awful, mediocre, or exceptional at the things we do. This is what Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is all about.
Here is an example of the many benefits of Hypnosis, NLP, &Inner Dimension Therapy:
A. Release Negative Emotions * Release of Trauma * Weight Reduction * Smoking Cessation * Improve Sexual Performance
B. Relaxation Techniques * Stress Management * Pain Management * Surgery Preparation
C. Improve Study Habits * Improve Memory * Better Grades * Athletic Performance * Improved self-confidence
D. Fears * Phobias * Past-Life Regression * Spiritual Growth* Future Programming
